Ballots cast at the same point: early vote + mail

Early votes in person plus mail ballots returned, through the first day of early voting (15 days before Election Day) in each year. For a ZIP, prior years count voters living in that ZIP at the time.

Party mix, same point in each election

Ballots split by which party's primary the voter took that March. "No primary" means they skipped it, not that they're independent. Head counts follow each primary's size, and the 2026 Democratic primary was far larger than the Republican one.

Who is voting

Each 2026 ballot matched to countywide voting history, 2019–2026 (10 elections). Bars compare early voters and mail voters.

How this was built

Sources: Harris County's cumulative early-vote and mail-ballot rosters through Oct 19, 2026, for the Nov 3 general. Every early voter carries a state voter ID. Mail records without one were matched by name, ZIP and house number. Both were joined to countywide voter history from the official rosters of 10 elections, 2019–2026. No voter appears on both lists.

ZIP is the residence ZIP on each roster. A few hundred 2026 ballots have no ZIP; they count in the countywide figures but in no ZIP. Prior-year comparisons use the same point in each election, counted in days before Election Day. Early voting opened 15 days out in 2022, 2024 and 2026.

Party is primary participation, not registration. Texas has no party registration, and about a third of these voters skipped the March primary. Party colors follow each party's logo: Democratic blue and Republican red. About a fifth of early voters have no birth year in the history files, which shows as the Unknown age bar.
